前两天有同学抱怨英语每个字都看得懂，但是句子看不懂。
诊断：缺乏对英语成语的了解。
抛转引玉，今天的成语。
1. throw in the towel = 扔毛巾 ＝＞ 完结了事 ＝＞ 根据上下文，处于下风的一方扔毛巾 ＝ 认输

turn on a dime =〉 在一毛钱的硬币上转弯。 =〉灵活。。。那位同学问了，为什么是一毛钱而不是一分钱或者五分钱？因为美国的硬币当中，一毛钱个子最小，比一分钱还小。加拿大币似乎也如此。
这个比较有意思。人上台演出，你要这么给人祝福，典故不知道出自何方：

是穷，没有到ｂａｎｋｒｕｐｔ。
通常使用是在比较轻松的环境下表达。应该不算正式表达方式。
bankrupt是一个比较严重的问题，不要随便用这个形容自己穷，否则会有麻烦。

如果有上下文，broken可以，不过一般都是说broke。
如果没有上下文，你说I am broke,除了没钱没有第二个意思。如果你说I am broken,人肯定不会一下子想到你在说没钱。英文地道不地道，都在这种细节里。
