How does the Retractable Door behave in inclement weather?

Our wet weather testing of a Disappearing Car Door on our Lincoln Mark VIII against a baseline standard MarkVIII proved that the Retractable Car Door vehicle kept the occupants dryer during entry/egress exercises than the standard Mark VIII. Also you can open your umbrella faster and easier with the Retractable Door.

Does the door get wet and dirty when it is down under the car?

The door retracts into a clean dry pocket which incidentally allows standard car ground clearance at all times.

Can the doors be fitted onto a standard two and four door configuration?

The extended doors on the Lincoln Mark VIII’s shown in the current video are an option which affords greatly improved access to the rear seats of a 2-Door Coupe. Vehicles with standard length 2-door and 4-door configurations will also be available.

How does the Retractable Door behave in gusting high wind situations?

In heavy wind conditions great difficulty can be experienced in opening or closing the conventional door. It can also be blown shut endangering hands or feet. This cannot happen with the Retractable Car Door as it never leaves the confines of the vehicle during operation and is not mounted on hinges.

What happens in deep snow?

In snow conditions the retractable car door will usually operate more efficiently than a standard door as you do not have to push against the snow bank to open it.

How does our door perform when the car is parked on a steep hill?

Parking on a steep hill such as in San Francisco does not cause any problem when opening or closing our door as you are never fighting the apparent extra weight caused by the slope of the pavement during the operation.

What happens in a serious road accident?

Our doors are stronger and more impact resistant that standard car doors for the following reasons.

Our door integration technology along with our modular cruciform door structure ensure that our door reunites structurally with the body when closed in a way which offers greater resistance to crash impact than a standard door as shown in crash tests performed for us by a major supplier to the automobile manufacturers.

How do Passengers escape after a bad crash?

Jatech has developed a Proprietary Access/Escape System which is built into every Retractable Door vehicle. An Impact Sensor releases all latches after a short built-in time lapse to allow for secondary impacts. The door can then be pushed outwards to the ground as there are no hinges to hold front end of the door in place.

Paramedics, Firemen and other accident responding personnel also found that access to passengers would be much improved in any severe accident situation.

What happens if the vehicle experiences power failure?

Our vehicles are equipped with a Manual Override which can be operated from inside or outside the vehicle.

Will airbag placement and function be affected?

Side airbags or curtain side airbags can be fitted in the normal way. In addition the side airbags in our vehicles are located in the armrest of the captains chair type seat

Can the powered retractable door cause damage to persons or objects during its travel?

Our door and window glass have motion sensors similar to those now used for power sliding doors on most of today’s vans and like these will stop and reverse if they meet a foreign object during travel.

Can you escape from the car if it is underwater?

A standard car door cannot be opened underwater due to the pressure exerted by the water outside of the door and therefore escape can only be achieved through the window area by lowering or breaking the window if there is a power down situation. The Retractable Door can be opened manually and pushed down which will allow an escape through the entire door and window area.
